Meet Me Under the Westway
Jem’s been dumped by Rachel because …“We’ve reached the end.” But he’s not brooding on it. So Rachel’s gone, but who’ll replace her? He’d love it to be Sarah. Sadly, Jem doesn’t think she sees him in that way. And why would she? He’s hardly a great catch. Thirty-two years old, with no money in the bank and very few possessions. No regular job, and lacks both the skills and the desire to get one.
But Jem’s not without ambition. His aim is to become a famous playwright. It’s all he’s ever wanted. Some day he hopes to be up there with the Tom Stoppards and the David Hares, with sell-out runs at the National and transfers to the West End and Broadway. Failing that, he’ll settle for being a darling of the fringe, scourge of the establishment. That’s the dream, but the older he gets the more elusive it becomes. The truth is he fears what the future holds …

Rebellion
The first part of a trilogy that, together, will chart a hundred years of Jamaica’s turbulent history. The story concerns a group of runaway slaves who flee their plantation for a life in the mountains. There they meet up with a band of rebels who’ve been fighting the British army for decades.
Stephen shows how Jamaica’s rebels, by means of a stiff and sustained resistance, forced the British government to reset the timetable for emancipation, the result being that abolition was announced a lot sooner than had been expected. With the rush to sanctify William Wilberforce and others within the abolitionist movement, this achievement has at best been forgotten, and at worse been deliberately overlooked. Either way Rebellion acts as a corrective.
