Mark Stanton (Stan)
My fiction list is pretty eclectic – literary novels that may (or may not) have a broad appeal (the Richard and Judy pick Salmon Fishing in the Yemen being one that did), crime and thrillers (Random or the Theakston’s Old Peculiar winning Two Way Split), historical novels (Doug Jackson’s wonderful Roman series published by Transworld).
I can’t help you with … commercial women’s fiction or sci-fi and fantasy. And my list is adult fiction – not children’s. Otherwise, do – please – send it in.
With regards non-fiction, my speciality is sport – please send anything in the field. But what I’d love is something akin to a British Friday Night Lights, or a book that does for – say - rugby, running or rowing what books like Brilliant Orange, Fever Pitch and Inverting the Pyramid did for football.
I’d like more music writers to sit alongside the likes of Graeme Thomson (acclaimed biographies of Elvis Costello, Willie Nelson and Kate Bush) … so budding Nick Kents and Peter Guralnicks very welcome (though you could also try Kevin Pocklington for this). And I’m very keen to build a popular science list.
